Tucked away in the poetic highlands of Cao Bang, Thang Hen Lake is a perfect escape for those seeking peace in nature. Its emerald waters remain clear year-round, surrounded by ancient forests and limestone mountains, creating a scene that is both majestic and serene.
📍 Where is Thang Hen Lake?
Located in Quoc Toan Commune, Tra Linh District, Cao Bang Province, at an altitude of 1,500–1,700 meters above sea level, Thang Hen is the largest freshwater lake in a system of 36 lakes in Tra Linh. Though they appear separate, these lakes are actually connected by a network of underground caves.
The name “Thang Hen” means “bee’s tail” in the Tay language, inspired by its distinctive shape when viewed from above. Cool weather year-round and untouched scenery make it a must-visit destination in Cao Bang.
🛣 How to Get There
- From Cao Bang City: National Highway 3 (21 km) → Provincial Road 205 (4 km) → turn at the signpost to Thang Hen Lake Eco-tourism Area (8 km).
- The road passes through mountain passes, so good driving skills are recommended. Taxis are available but more expensive than renting a motorbike.
- From outside Hanoi: Fly to Noi Bai International Airport, then travel by road to Cao Bang and follow the above route.
