Japan has once again proven its enduring allure by claiming three spots on the list of the 10 Best Cities in the Asia-Pacific, according to the Travel + Leisure Luxury Awards Asia Pacific.
Leading the pack, Tokyo was crowned the best city overall, followed by Bangkok, Thailand in second place and Singapore in third.
Coming in fourth was Seoul, South Korea’s vibrant capital, recognized for its unique mix of rich traditions and cutting-edge innovation. Hong Kong followed in fifth, continuing to impress visitors with its dazzling skyline, luxury shopping, and world-class cuisine.
Kuala Lumpur ranked sixth, thanks to its multicultural energy, thriving street food scene, and iconic landmarks like the Petronas Towers. At number seven, Ho Chi Minh City stood out for its bustling café culture, historic charm, and youthful energy that draws millions of travelers annually.
Rounding out the top 10 were Kyoto and Osaka, two cities that showcase Japan’s deep cultural heritage and modern urban appeal, as well as Sydney, Australia, beloved for its spectacular harbor views, iconic Opera House, and laid-back coastal lifestyle.
Why Tokyo Stands Out
Tokyo remains not only Japan’s gateway but also its primary destination. The city is renowned for its Michelin-starred restaurants — more than any other city worldwide — as well as its diverse drinking culture, ranging from refined sake bars to buzzing late-night izakayas.
Japan’s tourism boom continues strong: between January and May 2025, the country welcomed 18.1 million international visitors, marking a 23.9% increase compared to the same period in 2024.
The nominees were selected by Travel + Leisure editors and expert contributors, with winners decided through public voting — making these rankings a true reflection of travelers’ favorites across the region.
